Welcome To The Middle

May 29, 2007

Didn’t we do well?

Joe Higgins, I will move house to vote for you. Michael McDowell, I will grudgingly admit that your voice will be missed.

Ain’t it great that we now have 130+ centre-right public representatives? That’s out of a total of 166.

Also shocking is that Beverley Cooper-Flynn (may be bankrupt soon), Michael Lowry (deemed to have evaded tax), Jackie Healy-Rae, Tony Gregory and Finian McGrath could form part of the next Irish government. Won’t the latter three do well for their constituents? Don’t we have local politicians? Shouldn’t our TDs be legislating?

Unfortunately, the Mahon Tribunal revelations will have little effect, because the explanations will run on and on. Bart may have been found out, but he can deny, deny, deny.

Tribunal naysayers, surely this gives enough evidence to continue?

About As Easy As A Nuclear War

May 15, 2007

Reminded by the brilliance of John WatersEurovision entry, here are the top ten worst pop lyrics, as voted for by BBC Radio 6 listeners. Surely ‘They Can’t Stop The Spring’ gains instant admission to the top 5?

1. Des’ree - Life

I don’t want to see a ghost
It’s the sight that I fear most
I’d rather have a piece of toast
Watch the evening news

2. Snap - Rhythm Is A Dancer

I’m as serious as cancer
When I say rhythm is a dancer

3. Razorlight - Somewhere Else

And I met a girl
She asked me my name
I told her what it was

4. ABC - That Was Then But This Is Now

More sacrifices than an Aztec priest
Standing here straining at that leash
All fall down
Can’t complain, mustn’t grumble
Help yourself to another piece of apple crumble

5. U2 - Elevation

I’ve got no self control
Been living like a mole now
Going down, excavation
High and high in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high
Elevation

6. Toto - Africa

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti

7. Oasis - Champagne Supernova

Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you when we were getting high?

8. Duran Duran - Is There Something I Should Know?

And fiery demons all dance when you walk through that door
Don’t say you’re easy on me you’re about as easy as a nuclear war

9. Human League - The Lebanon

Before he leaves the camp he stops
He scans the world outside
And where there used to be some shops
Is where the snipers sometimes hide

10. Black Sabbath - War Pigs

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses.

They Can’t Stop The Spring

The curtain has been raised, the wall no longer stands
And from Lisadell to Latvia, we’re singing as one clan
The curtain has been raised, and Europe’s all one stage
And the archipelagic icicles have melted like the cage

We don’t need no party, just a party band
A continental choir singing hand in hand

They might scare the blackbird
But they cannot stop him sing
They may steal the honey
But they’ll never steal the sting
They may crush the flowers
Trample every living thing
But they can’t stop the spring

(repeat last verse twice)

No they can’t stop the spring

Update: Found another list here. Highlights include

50 Cent , ‘21 Questions’

I love you like
A fat kid loves cake

Sade, Smooth Operator

Coast to coast,
LA to Chicago

So, Joost

May 12, 2007

I’ve been signed up to the Joost beta for a few months, and liked what I saw. Got an email from them the other day saying i could invite unlimited amounts of folk, so today I thought I’d do their word-of-mouth for them and spread the love.

I start the Joost client, and it says it’s out of date. Shouldn’t be a problem, follow the link and get the latest version, right?

Nope. I’m posting this after having spent 15 minutes cruising around the increasingly irritating Joost website. A big download button right in the middle of the screen would be so welcome right now …

I’m not entirely sure I’d entrust all my data to the Cloud just yet, but there are some nice apps listed here.
