B-movies
February 4, 2008Tons and tons of ‘em.

Not much that can be said about this (because it hinges on a twist) except that Steve Buscemi, unlike some actors, can also direct. It’s refreshing to see a film in which the principal characters are equally unappealing. Buscemi carefully drags the audience’s sympathy this way and that, delivering some very black humour along the way. There are a couple of implausible moments that have to be overcome, but overall it’s well worth seeing. It’s also a very lean 84 minutes, which is a good thing. Buscemi plays a variation on the character he’s been playing for ages, and Miller is convincing as Katja.
