Linking Is Bad, M’kay?
November 8, 2007Here are some links to some sites that link to some other sites that seem to host copyrighted material. I hope I don’t get in too much trouble.
Might the eagerness to go after individuals who own sites that are nothing more than a collection of hyperlinks stem from the fact that some of the sites that host the content are, emm, rather well equipped with lawyers?
While FACT’s statement cited "offences relating to the facilitation of copyright infringement," Gloucestershire police told IT news site The Register that the man has been "arrested for supplying property with a registered trade mark without permission."
The first of these is not an offence and the second does not fit the circumstances, according to Kim Walker, head of intellectual property at Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind OUT-LAW.COM.
So they can’t even get the charges right? Clueless about the Internet. Reminds me of the big music labels.
Speaking of them, glad to see that shutting down Oink was such a resounding success …
